What You'll Get

The Hip Hop Nutcracker re-imagines Tchaikovsky's classic score, swapping out pas de duex and relevé for head-spins and windmills. Instead of pointe shoes, these Sugarplums are lacing up their high-top sneakers and they'll be poppin' and lockin' their way into New York. A dozen all-star dancers, an on-stage DJ and an electric violinist bring the traditional Nutcracker story to life in a modern-day setting. In addition to some explosive hip hop choreography bounding across the United Palace Theatre stage, this merry mash-up also features an appearance by one of hip hop's pillars: Kurtis Blow. The rap icon's early-'80s hit "Christmas Rappin'" took caroling to the club, so he's the perfect guest star to tie a bow around this holiday hybrid.

Event Description:
Running time is two-and-a-half hours, including one intermission.
This show is appropriate for children of all ages.

Miss Saigon

The year is 1975, just before the Fall of Saigon. The place is Dreamland, a sleazy nightclub. All eyes are on Kim, a 17-year-old orphan forced to take a job dancing for G.I.s stationed abroad during the Vietnam War. Fortunately, one of those pairs of eyes belongs to the upstanding sergeant Chris, and love blooms. But their young romance is threatened by circumstances beyond their control, as Chris is called back to America just as the Viet Cong take Kim’s city. Before he does, he leaves Kim with the hope that he will be back to rescue her—a hope that might prove crueler than no hope at all.
Based on Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly and written by the team behind Les MisĂ©rablesMiss Saigon’s soulful story and songs earned the musical multiple Tony nominations and led it to became one of the longest-running productions on Broadway. Emotion shines through in every number, from the soaring lament of “Why, God, Why?” to the chilling urgency of “The Fall of Saigon.” Combined with a set that spans the globe and a staged helicopter escape, Miss Saigon combines jaw-dropping spectacle with an emotional core that could draw tears from even the most theater-averse of rocks.

ELF The Musical

Based on the 2003 Will Ferrell cinematic smash, Elf is a comic Christmas classic for a new generation. Orphaned baby Buddy makes a fateful crawl into Santa’s sack of toys, and finds himself an unwitting resident of the North Pole. Raised among elves, Buddy grows up thinking he is an elf, himself—until his suspiciously sizable build and lack of toy-making prowess force him to acknowledge he is not like the others. With Santa’s permission, Buddy heads to the Big Apple to reconnect with his birth father and share his uniquely winning perspective on the Christmas season.
Recently announced, George Wendt, from the long-running television series Cheers will be starting as Santa Claus. With a score by Broadway stalwarts Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer) and a book by Tony-winners Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone) and Thomas Meehan (Annie, Hairspray, The Producers), Elf instills the holiday spirit in audiences while underscoring the importance of being true to yourself, with or without pointy slippers.
